Avinu (pronounced ah vee' noo) is Hebrew for "our father," as in Avraham avinu, Abraham our father. Jesus would have begun "The Lord's Prayer" with this word.
The words "Our Father which art in heaven" (Avinu sh'baShammayim), open many Hebrew prayers.
Avinu's sole purpose is to honor the Lord Jesus Christ primarily through the old hymns, spirituals, and classical pieces as well as through a few contemporary and southern gospel favorites.
